Dark Chocolate Popcorn

I've always wanted to try to make my own gourmet popcorn. You know the kind you see all over blogland. The popcorn with the caramel or the graham crackers. Yeah, I wanted to make some of that.

So, off to the grocery store I went, and I took Hubby with me. My original idea was pastel popcorn. I wanted to do something for Easter. Well, Hubby talked me into getting dark chocolate chips, so I ended up making Dark Chocolate Popcorn.

Turns out, gourmet popcorn isn't that hard to make. Mine is literally four ingredients. Yep, four!

Here's what you'll need:

1 bag of popcorn. Yep, you can use Orville Redenbacher with butter (or without if you want).
1 12 oz bag of dark chocolate chips
3/4 bag of M&Ms
3/4 8 oz bag of Reese's Minis

Pop the popcorn like you normally would. You know how the bag says "Do Not Use the Popcorn Button"? Yeah, use the popcorn button. That keeps it from burning. When it's done, make sure you put it in a large bowl. It should be big enough to stir the other ingredients in with the popcorn.

Next, add the M&Ms. Toss the popcorn and the M&Ms with your hands or a rubber spatula.

Slice each of the Reese's Minis in half and toss them with the popcorn mixture.

Now, start melting the chocolate. Place all of the chocolate chips in a saucepan, and add a little butter or shortening. This helps liquify the chocolate. Heat the chocolate on medium to low heat, stirring consistently, until it is smooth enough to pour.

Pour the chocolate slowly over the popcorn a little at a time. Stir with a rubber spatula. As you stir, pour more chocolate if needed. You can make it as chocolaty as you wish!

Let the popcorn cool completely so the chocolate dries and all the ingredients stick together. Enjoy the chocolaty goodness of this Dark Chocolate Popcorn!
