It's been too long

Hey guys! I'm so sorry I've been away so long. Hubby and I have moved to another state, and we are still trying to get this new budget under control. I promise as soon as we get everything together, I will have internet again, and I will start blogging regularly again. Please Please don't give up on me! I have all of these great ideas, and I can't wait to share them with you. In the meantime, I really appreciate your patience!

Bonfire Bars

So, I know it's still pretty hot outside, but there is something about August and back to school that makes me think of fall. I mean, I'm totally a summer kind of girl, but hoodies, football, and that nip in the air. Yeah, that's some great stuff. Another thing I love about fall - bonfires. Growing up, my cousin used to host bonfires all the time. She had a barn, so we would hang out in there when we weren't by the fire. She'd host them for back to school, halloween, and even Thanksgiving break. They were always so much fun. We would roast hotdogs and of course smores, but we always had another treat too.

Hey there! Today I'm talking about a special recipe my grandmother gave me when I got married. You see, she knew we would need something that wasn't too expensive to make and would last a few days. When we first got married, I still had one semester left in college, Hubby had a couple of years in college left, I was jobless in the middle of the recession, and Hubby only had a part time job making $400 a month. Yep, I said a month. Let's just say those were hard times, and we are sooooo much better now! Anyways, my grandmother knew just how to help us.

DIY Inspirational Sign

Remember when I made that Personalized Wedding Decor for my little sister for her wedding gift? Well, I also made her another sign. This one was meant to be more inspirational, more like a pick-me-up. She hadn't seen this one yet, though, so I decided to keep it off the blog until she did. Summer Sunflower Wreath

Friday is the summer solstice. That means, it will officially be summer. Being in southwest Florida, I have to know when the summer and winter solstices are, because it always feels like summer here. 

Anyways, in celebration of the season, I made an awesome wreath.

Lemon Creme Cupcakes [like the cookies]

My sister is getting married in 2 weeks! I'm so excited for her. She's had a really rough time recently [dress mix up, bridesmaid dress mix up, death in the family], but I know she is going to have a wonderful day. 

I'm making her cupcakes, so I had to come up with something special for her. We're having not so traditional chocolate, vanilla, and something just a bit different.

A Little Fun Family Vaca

Since Hubby and I moved to SW Florida, we've been missing our family. Finally after six months, my parents and sister came to see us. We were so excited, and it was a great week. We even headed to Busch Gardens for a day trip.

Non-Dairy Strawberry-Banana Smoothie

So, I've been wanting to go to the farmer's market since we moved here, but the problem is, I don't have a car. Hubby and I decided to go down to one vehicle to save money. He takes it to work during the week, and I pretty much just walk when I want to go somewhere. 

One day, we decided to the flea market, and lo and behold they had a lot of fruit stands. Hooray! I gathered up some watermelon, cantaloupe, and strawberries. I wanted to buy much more, but I only had $8 in cash. I couldn't wait to start transforming these fruits into something delicious.

Prayers for Oklahoma

If you don't know about the tornado in Moore, Oklahoma, I'm not sure where you've been. But, if you don't know, turn on the news, read articles on the internet, just look it up. It was devastating. It hit two elementary schools. Fortunately all of the students were accounted for in one of those schools. The other school wasn't so lucky. There have been many deaths, and there are still many missing.

I know first hand the fear of a tornado. You get maybe minutes warning. It's terrifying. While I've personally never experienced damage to my own property, I've seen destruction that is eery. 

I'm from Alabama. On April 27, 2011, we had tornados all throughout the state. They killed 278 people. I worked at a call center, and I can distinctly remember hoping I wouldn't die in the halls at work. I remember hoping my husband had left work to get our dog and then went to his parents' basement. I remember hoping that nothing would happen at my parents' house. Fortunately for us, our area was one of the only areas not hit. 

The tornados leveled a town not far from us. It was a small town, so nearly everything was destroyed. I think 72 people died there. I knew people from there. I had never experienced that before. In Tuscaloosa, where I had graduated college, the tornado ripped down one of the most popular streets. I remember seeing video and crying. I had graduated the year before, and I still thought of it as home. I had friends there. I remember trying desperately to get in touch with them. I didn't lose anyone. I was so fortunate. Many were not. 

Moore, Oklahoma needs all the peace they can get. It's going to be hard to rebuild. They need prayers that they might find those missing children. They have lost so much, and the survivors will never forget. 

If you would like to help, please donate to the red cross. These families need everything - food, water, shelter, clothing, supplies. It's going to be long rebuilding process, but they will overcome.

There is a saying in Tuscaloosa - T-Town Never Down, and neither is Moore, Oklahoma.

Personalized Wedding Gift - A Pinterest Project

I don't know if you know this or not, but wedding season is coming up. I've been invited to 3 weddings so far. One was last weekend, one is in 2 weeks, and my sister's is in June. I had found this little beauty back when I first started pinning, and I just knew I would use it some day. My sister is gonna love it!

Homemade Potato Salad

Today, I'm talking side dishes. When I was growing up, whenever we had dinner, we always had the same side dishes to go with the main dish. I think it was sort of drilled into me that that was the way it was supposed to be. To this day, I can't stand eating certain things without the designated side dish. Now, as I've gotten older, I've switched a few things up, but some things never change. Pork chops must be served with potato salad unless I'm at a restaurant.

Banana Pops

I love ice cream; it's not my favorite, but every time I'm at the beach, I have to have it. Now, I live at the beach, and there are ice cream shops everywhere. I have ice cream every now and then, but only when I have a coupon. Hubby, however, doesn't particularly care for ice cream. When we go to an ice cream shop, he usually chooses something non-ice cream related.

Once, we were in Panama City, Florida, and I we passed this cute little roadside ice cream stand. It was so down-homey that I had to have it. They had all sorts of treats. Hubby got a frozen banana, and he loved it! I knew that I had to try and make some.

Butterscotch Pancakes & Salted Caramel Sauce

So I made blondies a few weeks ago, and I had all of these leftover butterscotch chips. I racked my brain about a gazillion times, and I finally came up with something to use them in - Butterscotch Pancakes. Then, I had the concern that maybe maple syrup and butterscotch wouldn't pair so well. I'm not an expert though, they might. However, I decided to make some caramel sauce to go with it.

Paint Splatter Birthday Cake - Happy Birthday to ME!

So...Today's my birthday! When I got up this morning, there were little notes stuck all over the house that said "Happy Birthday" on them. I think Hubby was more excited than I was. I told my friend that I've been having a quarter-life crisis. She is five years older than me, so she had no sympathy for me. Oh well. I made myself a cake!

DIY Country Centerpieces

So, I've had this centerpiece sitting on my kitchen table for almost 3 years, and I finally decided to show it off to ya'll. However, I wanted to show you how to make it, too. The problem is, I didn't make it. My mother-in-law did. She actually made quite a few of them for my rehearsal dinner for my wedding. So in order to show ya'll how to make one, I had to take mine apart and put it back together. Good thing she didn't use any glue!
