Paint Splatter Birthday Cake - Happy Birthday to ME!

So...Today's my birthday! When I got up this morning, there were little notes stuck all over the house that said "Happy Birthday" on them. I think Hubby was more excited than I was. I told my friend that I've been having a quarter-life crisis. She is five years older than me, so she had no sympathy for me. Oh well. I made myself a cake!

I'm like the world's worst icing-er, so I tried to use this super easy tip from Sweet C Designs. Yeah, I still messed it up. Apparently I'm not patient enough. Oh well. It's just a cake, and it's still edible.

I wanted to make a cake that I could share with ya'll, and one that your kids might like. So, what better way to make kids happy than to let them throw icing? Trust me, they will have a ball!

You'll need:
Paint Brushes from the Arts&Crafts store.
Sprinkles
Food coloring of your choice
a microwave
icing
cake
saucers

Make sure your cake is completely cool, and ice it like you would normally. Or, you can scroll up and use the tip from Sweet C Designs. Save a small amount of icing for the paint splatters.

Next, depending on how many colors your'e using, you'll need a matching number of saucers. Separate you're leftover icing into the saucers, and melt them one by one for 5-8 seconds. Add your food coloring to the melted icing.

Using a paintbrush, flick a thick glob of icing onto the cake. You may have to paint the sides of the cake. After you "splatter" all the colors, you may want to go back over it with a few colors.

I also decided to add sprinkles to the bottom edge of the top layer. I used all the colors of the paint splatter. I though it added a nice touch.

As you can see, I was able to make quite a mess with the paint splatter. It's all over the cake circle. I didn't clean it up, because I though it gave the cake character {if that's even possible}. All in all, I'm pretty happy with it.

What do you think?
